Veniamo svegliati dall’alba di Monument Valley. Aspettiamo i ragazzi che sono per rendere tutti partecipanti a lavare il minivan e facciamo colazione nel nostro appartamento. Ci aspetta un lungo viaggio nel deserto. Abbiamo un carico infinito di acqua,succhi di frutta, gatorade, biscotti patatine e crachers. La signora Garret (il navigatore satellitare) non serve,c’è un’unica strada,verso l’infinito. Andando via da Monument Valley la voglia è tanta e non resistiamo. Ci fermiamo e guardiamo in dietro,la lunghissima strada che porta alle Mesas è troppo allettante. Accendiamo macchine fotografiche e telecamere…tutti pronti….. tutti davanti agli obiettivi … uno… due…. e treeeeee…….giù i pantaloni!!!!!!
Le risate ci accompagnano fino al Grand Canyon, sono le 13 e pranziamo con biscotti e patatine. Entrare al Grand Canyon significa 25$ a macchina per poter percorrere tutta la strada che affianca lo strapiombo. Lo scenario che troviamo è lunare. Il Grand Canyon è immenso( scusate il ripetermi dei termini ma qui è tutto cosi infinito!!!!) Siamo a quota 2.256 metri,un lieve malessere prende un po’ a tutti, forse l’altezza,forse il vuoto,la pressione bassa,forse un po’ tutto.
Nella fitta vegetazione che precede lo strapiombo del Canyon vediamo un cucciolo di scoiattolo, Danix impazzisce per fotografarlo, i turisti si incuriosiscono e si chiedono cosa accada, Elfo cerca il termine per tradurre il nome del piccolo animaletto per rendere tutti partecipi e (eureka), felice, esclama “cip e ciop”Ci scusiamo e lo portiamo via. Facciamo altre 25 miglia per raggiungere un altro punto di vista. E’ il Grand Canyon,che altro dire?
Partiamo alla volta di Las Vegas. Un po’ di strada la facciamo sulla Ruote 66,via a foto e video!! Siamo come bambini al luna park. Ci fermiamo da un vecchio benzinaio, fuori malandati Pick Up,cartelli pubblicitari in ferro erosi dal tempo ,sporchi meccanici siedono su vecchie sedie a dondolo ed un altrettanto vecchio motociclista si ferma a fare benzina. Sembra di stare dentro una pubblicità,invece è tutto vero,questo accade sulla Ruote 66, il posto è ideale per comprare qualcosa. Devo dire che non ci siamo fatti prendere la mano dallo shopping sfrenato,non cerchiamo gadget”made in China”vogliamo delle cose vere, come è vero il nostro viaggio. Non ci sentiamo turisti in fila per vedere uno show organizzato, ma siamo affamati del sogno americano e qui è il posto ideale per portare a casa un ricordo di questa avventura.
…….tanta tanta tanta ma ancora tanta natura …. Ma ora basta , è tempo di …….LAS VEGAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alle 21 siamo nel deserto del Nevada, la temperatura segna 100° farenaith(38 gradi) A 30 miglia da Las Vegas passiamo un posto di blocco, ci guardano all’interno e ci lasciano andare subito????? Dall’Arizona entriamo in Nevada, passando sopra la diga “Hoover Dam” recuperiamo 1 ora grazie al fuso orario e dalle 22,30 torniamo alle 21,30. E’ buio,siamo in pieno deserto, la fine di una salita ci regala la sorpresa di farci affacciare sulla vallata con Las Vegas nel pieno della sua energia(elettrica), Miliardi di luci illuminano tutta la vallata , Las Vegas è un enorme luna park di hotel miliardari impegnati nella sfida all’estremo. Ogni mega hotel è e tema,New York con la statua della libertà, Venezia, le Piramidi egizie, il circo, Stratosphere, Parigi e la torre Eiffel….è il tripudio dell’estremo. Decidiamo all’unanimità di regalarci una notte da veri Vip! Smart è alle stelle e sceglie il top:il Luxor (la sua luce sparata dalla punta della piramide è visibile fin dalla luna)! La sua delusione è data dal” sold out” tutto esaurito idem per il Marriot( hotel che hanno 5.000 stanze). Ma Las Vegas non ci conosce e se ci vuole sfidare,ha trovato pane per i suoi denti. Prendiamo,per la prima volta,ben 3 stanze(solitamente prendiamo 1 quadrupla ed una tripla)…..nientepopodimenoche…allo Stratosphere!!!!!!!!La famosa torre che troneggia tutta Las Vegas ( una delle costruzioni più alte del mondo! A mezzanotte un giro by night, io,mi addormento in piedi….e non scherzo!!!! buonanotte
Pensieri del giorno: Come un giorno, come trascorre una vita, di un indiano che vive in mezzo al deserto nella riserva Navajo? Ogni villaggio è costituito da 4/5 casette di legno e vecchie roulotte argentate (come quelle dei film) non c’è nient’altro. Non c’è un albero ne un’ombra per centinaia di km e la temperatura supera i 40 gradi. Tra un villaggio ed un altro ci sono 2 ore di viaggio, ci sono fermate dello scuolabus ogni 50 km. Alla fermata a volte corrisponde una casetta dispersa nel deserto. E’ difficile pensare a questo stile di vita. Cosa fanno tutto il giorno, tutta una vita,lontano da tutto e da tutti, nel pieno deserto?
Nota positiva: Dopo tanto deserto, tanta solitudine(il nostro minivan è escluso) arrivare a Las Vegas è una boccata di vita!!!
Nota negativa: Assurdo, a Las Vegas, dopo le 10 di sera , non si cena!!!!! Pensavamo di trovare una città 24 ore su 24, invece, Casino’ a parte, il resto ha orari molto normali.

The "thing" on top is called a power chain. I know those are tight and that’s definitely contributing to your soreness. If you leave your elastics on, the pain will eventually go away. Leaving them off and then trying to put them back on later just won’t help. When you have your elastics on, they are working and moving everything into place. The minute you take them off you lose progress. It doesn’t just stay and then work some more when you put them back. It’s like starting over every time. Just wear them all the time, change them 3 times a day, and you’ll get it over with faster. I know it hurts and I’m so sorry! It will get better!

Killing most bacteria is not too hard–just make sure you get your food up to 165 degrees F–an all through the food, not just some spots. There are two problems with this. If you get all your macaroni and cheese up to this temperature, a lot of the macaroni is going to be cardboard and the cheese part oil and part scorched. Salmonella, for example grows in 44 degrees F to 117 degrees, so you don’t want to let food sit in that temperature range. I know this isn’t what you wanted to hear, but those bacteria are sneaky little guys.

It all depends on your mouth. It’s different for everyone. I had my braces for 2 and a half years and I didn’t get rubber bands until the second year I had braces, but I know it’s not the same for everyone.

I hope your husband at least learned his lesson. There is a reason for the protective shield, the light of a welder is like looking directly into the sun, only worse. Keep him in low light area’s and wear sunglasses outside. Cold wet compresses on his eyes may help soothe them some. If not better by Monday, take him to the eye dr asap.

Your calorie intake is just right. It is recommend to lose 1-2 pounds a week. This is a healthy weightloss rate and you will more than likely be able to keep it off rather than losing too much too fast. Sounds like you are on the right track and keep at it!
